      Mar 19 2007 - We Need People!

Have you been wanting to work on the Megaman NeoPortal for quite some time but you haven't been asked or you haven't done anything to get recognized by the team? Well here's your chance to get recognized!

We're currently looking for more people to join the portal. You may not know this, but keeping information on a portal up to date and accurate is a very large task for just a handful of people. We've come to realize this and we feel that more people are needed.

How can you join? It's simple, really. You must first be a registered member of Neoseeker.com. If you're not, then feel free to register. It's free and the only thing you need is a real e-mail address. After you've met that criteria, take a good look around the portal, particularly in areas where you're knowledgeable. If your main area of expertise isn't an option on the portal, then come up with some sample content and send it to me through a NeoPM. I'll be accepting content until we've filled all our vacant staff positions, so there's no rush in getting your sample content in. If your main area of Megaman knowledge is already represented on the Portal, then feel free to use the page suggestion tool to send in your sample content. If it's a new page, though, please send me a NeoPM.

All good things must come to an end. The same thing can be said about the Mega Man Battle Network series. With the release of the sixth title, CAPCOM has officially ended the saga. However, with the closing of one chapter in the Mega Man legacy comes the opening of a new chapter for the Nintendo DS. Ryuusei no Rockman, or Rockman of the Meteor Shower as the English translation goes, shares some striking similarities with the Battle Network series in battle, but the game play and storyline are much different. Here is what The Under Square has to say about the storyline.

"Subaru Hoshikawa, having reached the fifth grade, still hasn't recovered from the shock of his father going missing three years ago, and since then days have continued going by that he doesn't even want to go to school. One day, when Subaru is in town, he meets the class chairman Luna Shirogane, and her schoolmates Gonta Ushijima and Kizamaro Saishoin. Luna tries to persuade Subaru into coming to class, though...

'...It's bad, but, I don't really care...' says Subaru, who then leaves his classmates. Subaru then comes to an observing platform.

'If I turn this on, I wonder if I can find my father...?' When Subaru turns on the Visualizer that his father used, the "Radio Wave World" appears before Subaru's eyes! Then suddenly, a mysterious light directly hits Subaru! He faints and collapses.

When Subaru regains consciousness, the mysterious alien 'Warrock' stands before him. When the Visualizer was exposed to a special 'FM wave,' it awoke a capability in the Visualizer which allows Subaru to see these figures.

Warrock tells Subaru that he's an 'FM alien' from the FM world, and that he knows about Subaru's father. When Subaru tries to hear about his father, they're attacked by 'Radio Wave Viruses' from the same planet Warrock is from! Wanting to know about his father, Subaru carrioes out a fusion as Warrock was saying - a 'Radio Wave-ization,' and gets wrapped up in a battle with the radio wave viruses...

As he wields Warrock, a delicate change begins to occur in Subaru's heart. Will Subaru be able to return to his upbeat self...!? And, why was Warrock attacked by the radio wave viruses!?"

Given this information, it seems as though radio waves are replacing the Internet from the Battle Network series and that in order to turn into the new Mega Man, Subaru and Warrock must fuse in much the same way that Mega Man and Lan utilized Full Synchro in Battle Network 3 at the end of the game. There is also a new system called the Brother Band system which powers up Mega Man, but no further information has been released at this time. With the appearance of the Nintendo Wifi logo on the Brother Band page, there is speculation out there that the pacts created using the Brother Band system between players will be done via Wifi.

If that isn't enough, this will make you fall out of your chairs. Ryuusei no Rockman will be released in three separate versions as opposed to the two separate versions of the Battle Network series. The versions have been confirmed as Leo, Draco, and Pegasus.

The game's tentative Japanese release date is set for December 2006. No definite date has been announced yet, but as always, Megaman.neo will keep you updated with any information regarding this new series!

In a recent article on IGN, a new MegaMan series has been announced for the Nintendo DS.

So far, little is known of it except that it will resemble the now ending EXE series. The game will feature ideas such as Navis, Viruses, HP, and Battle Chips but Capcom has stated that it will use a whole new style of battle (movement, fighting, etc.).

What's to expect is unknown but the article does allude to Lan and MegaMan in the background. Whether this series will be a tangent to EXE like ZX is to Z is unknown.

There has been no information on the presence or lack of WiFi gameplay.

A release date has not been announced in Japan yet though sometime in winter is speculated. If a US version is released, it will most likely be much later.

Stay tuned to the portal for more information on the new MegaMan series!

IGN.com has published a new video of MegaMan ZX highlighting Guardian Models that were hinted at in the game's trailer. The Guardian Models are based of the MegaMan Zero characters Fefnir, Harpuia, Leviathan, and Phantom. Each respective model is based on the character's special abilities.

Harpuia: A model that can hover through the air and can perform aerial combos

Leviathan: A model that has advanced mobility underwater and fights with a lance

Fefnir: A model that uses close range power punches capable of breaking rubble that can be charged to launch fire

Phantom: A model that appears to be more suited to areas ladden with traps. This model can hang off several surfaces and throw multiple shuriken, it appears to be able to use close range combo attacks as well.

Gameplay video of the confirmed X, Z, and ZX models were also shown.

X: As expected, this model specializes in buster combat.

Z: This model focuses on close range sword attacks

ZX: A combination of X and Z, it can use both buster and saber attacks with high proficiency.

Presumably, the power of the ZX form might lead to the creation of a system to control how long the forms can be used. Alternatively, form usage may deduct from mission points which determine rank.

With the announcement of new Rockman games and the recent ports to the PSP, Capcom has announced that MegaMan Legends (known as Rockman Dash in Japan) will be released on the Nintendo DS. Currently, the touch screen appears as though it will only be a map, but seeing as how there is currently no tentative release date for North America, more features may be added before it is released outside of Japan.

Over the past few weeks, new news, information, and screenshots concerning Capcom's newest Megaman series, Rockman ZX, have been revealed through the likes of foreign magazines and websites.

The basis of the Rockman ZX storyline involves the two characters Vent and Aile, formerly known as Van and Ale, who use the power of Live Metals to transform into the Model X form and take on the appearance of a robot character similar to Mega Man X. The name of a third character has since been announced: Silve, a young boy who shares the name of the shop at which Vent and Aile work, the "Silve Express," is the character who transforms into the Model Z form, though his relationship with Vent and Aile is currently unknown. These three characters, along with their forms, can be seen at Capcom's Official Rockman ZX website.

The French website JeuxFrance.com has revealed Rockman ZX-related magazine scans from the Japanese magazines Nintendo Dream and CoroCoro: CoroCoro Scan, Nintendo Dream Scan 1, Nintendo Dream Scan 2, Nintendo Dream Scan 3. If you'll pay close attention to the images in the CoroCoro scan, you'll notice what looks like our first glimpse of the Model ZX form, which is obviously a combination of models Z and X.

No official release date has been announced, but the game has a speculated Japanese release date of late 2006, so it probably won't be released in North America or Europe until late 2006 or early 2007. New Rockman ZX details will be revealed as they're uncovered.

Recently, Capcom of Japan released information about a new series for the Nintendo DS titled MegaMan ZX. The new series stars two new characters called Van and Ale who find a mysterious material known as Live Metal.

With this material, Van can transform into a replica of MegaMan X, while Ale can become a more modernized version of Zero. It is possible that this will allow the two heroes to use a transformation ability like the X series' Axl. The game's artistic style resembles that of the MegaMan Zero series and appears to be a classic platformer.

Whether the game will use combat systems like X, Zero, or both remains unknown, but details will be revealed as they are uncovered.

Two upcoming Mega Man titles, Mega Man Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X, are predicted to hit store shelves sometime in early 2006. Both games will be arriving on Sony's handheld console, the PSP.

Mega Man Powered Up is literally, as the title implies, a powered up or enhanced version of the original Mega Man game for the NES. The game's graphics will be receiving a complete makeover, new audio tracks will be available- though the original music can still be accessed, 100 short, new challenge levels will be included in the title, and a nifty level editor will be introduced to the game.

Maverick Hunter X is also a remake, but of the first game game in the X Series, which was simply titled Mega Man X. The game will receive many of the same changes as Mega Man Powered Up, but it will not include the level editor. To account for this loss, the game will include new cutscenes and a brand new, unlockable second quest that allows you to play as Vile.

Look for these games in the first quarter of 2006, but until then, check back for more updates.

On September 17, 2005, GameSpy managed to sit down with the creator of the Blue Bomber, Keiji Inafune, and the producer of the MegaMan games, Tatsuya Kitabayashi, and discussed two upcoming MegaMan titles: MegaMan: Powered Up (aka RockMan RockMan in Japan), and Maverick Hunter X (titled Irregular Hunter X in Japan). MegaMan: Powered Up is an updated version of the original MegaMan game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), sporting a new create a stage feature. Maverick Hunter X is a remake of the original MegaMan X game, which debuted on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

GameSpy: A lot of people seem to think that Mega Man: Powered Up is simply a straight port of the original NES Mega Man game with some graphical enhancements. Could you please elaborate on what's new in this version?

Keiji Inafune: Of course, having the great, classic gameplay on top of that shell of new graphics isn't enough if you're going to remake something, so one of the key points of Powered Up is the creation system. Mega Man is a game where creators can learn about the basics of making a game, and would-be creators or gamers themselves can learn what it's like to design and develop a Mega Man game as far as timing, placement of objects, what kind of enemies to put in, and the balancing that goes into it. By that rationale, having the creation mode in the game is fantastic because it's a learning experience for the gamer as well as for us, the creators.

GameSpy: So was the original intent of the creation mode to be a simple tutorial for future game designers?

Inafune: There's something about Mega Man games and 2D side-scrolling games in that they have a very natural, intuitive feel about them in the timing and the movement that 3D games nowadays seem to be losing. We want to focus on this natural feel with the creation mode. Imagine that you're watching a baseball game, and as you're watching, you say to yourself, "Wait a second. This player should be stealing a base right now" or "That player should have bunted instead of trying to hit a home run." You're sort of a backseat driver for the baseball game, right? Well, now's your chance to be a backseat driver for a game. You can sit there and say, "Aw, if I were making this game I would have put three enemies here" or "I would have made this enemy much harder." Now you can experience what it's like to actually put your ideas in the game. You can see what it's like to stand in the creators' shoes, so it's something that's very suitable for this Mega Man game.

GameSpy: Well, anything that keeps 2D gaming alive, we're all for.

Inafune: The other thing that's really great about this creation mode is that you'll remember that the original Mega Man game had six stages plus the Dr. Wily levels. This version itself is going to have two extra stages. So now, you'll have the classic eight stages plus the Wily stages that appeared in the other Mega Man titles. We at Capcom did our best to make the eight most interesting stages that we could think of, but now it's your chance, as the consumer to make the interesting stages that you want to create. The best part about it is that you're not just limited to eight. You could try making 100 different stages. You could try making 200 different stages. It's only going to be left up to how much time and energy you want to put in it and how much fun you want to have. That's what makes this creation mode so cool.

GameSpy: You mentioned the two new stages. In the game's trailer, you show the silhouette of the two "mystery bosses." Were these new bosses created specifically for this game or are they cameos from other characters in the Mega Man series?

Tatsuya Kitabayashi: We were just going to make this new game like the original with only six stages. Then one day, even though I'm the producer of the project, Mr. Inafune came up to me and gave me character designs for two new characters. He said, "Put these in your game," and I said, "What?!" And Mr. Inafune was like, "Ah, just put 'em in the game." So I'm explaining to him, "You don't understand. Now I have to design two extra stages, and even worse, there was a delicate balance between which enemy's weapon would beat which enemy. So now you throw in two more, and how do they relate to all the other bosses that are already there? Are they strong; are they weak?" Luckily, Mr. Inafune had already thought that out, and was able to tell me what weapons worked on each of the bosses. But yes, the two extra bosses are new and designed by Mr. Inafune. So he literally went back to the drawing board for this game.

GameSpy: The new art style for the game is really, really cute. What prompted the new style?

Inafune: Believe it or not, what you're seeing on the PSP is what I originally intended Mega Man to look like. But as I was making the game for the NES, there were limitations on the hardware and the graphics, so he ended up looking how he looked in those games. Now that I have hardware that has far fewer limitations as far as the graphics, I can finally show the true Mega Man that I wanted to show.

GameSpy: That sounds a bit like George Lucas and his special edition versions of Star Wars. After the new technology became available, he was able to go back and creating the vision that he originally intended.

Inafune: Well, I haven't changed any of the timing or the action elements of the game. It still feels almost one hundred percent like the old Mega Man that you've played down to the timing and the jumping. That's because a good game is a game that will not get old. If you go back and play and old Mario game or an old Mega Man game, it's still gonna "feel" fun. It's still gonna feel intuitive and natural. So there really was no reason to change the gameplay itself.

GameSpy: Yeah, I noticed while playing through the "Old Style" Cutman stage in the game's demo that all of my old strategies still worked. I was able to get through the stage just as well as I could on the NES version.

Inafune: It's funny, you not only have a visual memory, but also a memory of touch. So when you play that old game, and you then play the new one and it feels the same, you naturally smile because you feel like a kid again playing that exact same game. It feels better than just watching an old video because you're doing the exact same motions that you used to do. I've noticed this reaction from people on playing the game here at TGS, and I had that reaction myself when I first played the new game.

While I do want people who have never played the original Mega Man to try out Powered Up, more than anything, I want those people who have played the original to smile when they play it because they think that, "Yeah, this is the Mega Man that I remember as a young child." That's gonna make me happy. That's what I want this game to be -- a sort of present to all the old, retro gamers who can now come back and remember that small bit of our childhood. If we can make those people smile, then this will be a successful game for me. Mega Man really is a classic game, and if I can get the old people to come back and remember what makes it so great, then that will make me the happiest guy in the world. And on top of that, if people watching you play suddenly want to play, and it becomes infection, then that would be great, too. That would be showing these new gamers what old, true gaming roots are about.

GameSpy: Is this going to be a one shot deal, or is the plan to eventually have, say, Rockman 2 Rockman 2 and Rockman 3 Rockman 3? Will you remake the other games in the series?

Inafune: This is going to be something that's largely dependant on how popular Powered Up is. There's no room for a game that only sells a few hundred copies when it costs so much to make. Personally, I would love to create a remake of Mega Man 2. Whether I decide to make it like Powered Up or whether it would have even more original content would largely depend of the users' reaction to this title.

GameSpy: Regarding Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X, what prompted the idea to do a remake of Mega Man X?

Inafune: In the X series, we've gotten all the way up to X8, and the question came up, "Should we make X9 or not?" About the time when we were talking about that, the PSP had come out, and we thought that it was a really sweet piece of hardware. So we decided that instead of going the X9 route, let's go back to the series' roots and rediscover what makes the X series so classic. We felt that the best way to do that would be to make an X remake. And once again, if this remake is really popular, a remake of X2 or X3 could also be in the cards.

GameSpy: So is this revisiting of the classic Mega Man games a way for the designers to remember and then use some of the older design sensibilities to create Mega Man X9 or (and I'm crossing my fingers here) Mega Man 9 that much better?

Inafune: As more and more Mega Man games came out, they started to lose what made Mega Man so great. I personally was only involved in the X series up until X4 and then after that, other people took direction of the series. Making these remakes and showing what make the originals so fun will help the designers learn a lot about what makes Mega Man so cool. What makes him tick, so to speak. They can then use that knowledge on X9 or perhaps 9.

GameSpy: Between this remake of X, the remake of the original Mega Man (enhanced though it may be), and the recent Japanese re-releases of the two Mega Man Legends titles for PSP, are you at all afraid of people thinking that the PSP is becoming merely a place for ports or rehashes of Mega Man games?

Inafune: These remakes are supposed to symbolize me trying to get the consumer, as well as the designers in Capcom's Research and Development, to understand what Mega Man is. So by going back to the series' roots, people will play and think, "Wait, this was a lot more fun than I thought." Then maybe it will prove that making Mega Man X9 or Mega Man 9 would make sense. If these new games are not supported, as much as I dislike the idea, then it wouldn't make sense to make those sequels. The game industry, of course, is run on money. It's not like I'm making these games just for my own benefit -- we have to make a profit. If we do make a profit, and it proves that Mega Man is still popular, then I would love nothing more than to continue the series to X9 and 9. Maybe if it sells a lot in America...

GameSpy: One last question. Now that you've gotten a chance to see Nintendo's Revolution controller, do you have any ideas brewing about how you can use it for future Mega Man games or any other new games in general?

Inafune: When I first saw the Revolution controller, I have to saw that it was an amazing surprise. You know that you want to use it in some way, shape or form, but you don't know how exactly. So whether I'm able to directly use it for a Mega Man game, I really can't say right now. But I can say that it definitely makes you feel potential for not only Mega Man games, but any game.

      Sep 09 2005 - Mega Man X1 for PSP

Capcom has recently announced Irregular Hunter X for the PSP. Irregular (Japanese for Maverick) Hunter X is an upgraded version of Mega Man X1 (SNES/PC). The graphics have been enhanced to look similar to X8's. The game will follow the traditional side-scrolling format, but the 2D gameplay will be combined with 3D graphics.

There have also been rumors of new levels, Zero being playable, and X obtaining new upgrades. However, all of these are just speculation until more information is revealed.

Irregular Hunter X will arrive in Japan in Winter of 2005. There has been no word on a possible release in any other country. Until then, nostalgic gamers can always look forward to playing classic Mega Man X1 in the upcoming Mega Man X Collection.

Three months after Mega Man X8 crept its way onto the Playstation 2, Tatsuya Minami of Capcom announced yet another game in the never-ending X series.

Similar to last year's Mega Man Anniversary Collection, the new game will be a compilation of the first six Mega Man X games, dating from 1993 to 2001. The game, which will more than likely be titled the "Mega Man X Collection," will include Mega Man Battle and Chase, a Mario-Kart type racing game featuring Mega Man and company.

No release date or console specifics have been announced yet, but the collection will more than likely hit the Playstation 2 and Gamecube consoles as 2005 draws to a close.
