Plot Summary

A month after the downfall of Regal and the Dark Chip Syndicate Nebula, Lan and friends are headed over to Dr. Hikari's office to examine his latest findings. An attack on SciLab brings their trip to a sudden halt. A group of people has stormed the building and knocked out it's inhabitants with sleeping gas, including those inside Dr. Hikari's office. Luckily, Lan was just outside his father's room at the time of the attack, and managed to remain undetected by the mysterious invaders. Unfortunately, they've kidnapped Dr. Hikari, and Dex, Mayl, and Yai have been stripped of their PETs. Upon recovering from the effects of the gas, Lan remembers seeing a glimpse of his father's captor, a man thought to be dead: Dr. Regal. He also learns that not only SciLab suffered from this attack; large portions of the Net are now controlled by this group. In Team Colonel, Lan soon meets up with a man named Baryl and his sword-wielding navi Colonel, who claim to be leading a group called the Anti-Nebula Corps. In Team Protoman, Lan instead finds Chaud and Protoman. In both games, they set out to liberate the Net one area at a time and hope they can find a clue that will lead them to the whereabouts of Dr. Hikari.

Gameplay Summary

The most recent game in the series brings forth quite a few new gameplay tweaks, which creates the most exciting battle system in the series thus far. The main addition is the Liberate Mission, in which you try to free Nebula-controlled areas by deleting the Darkloids and Nebula navis occupying that particular location. Doing this in a set number of turns will land you a powerful, new chip, so it's best to plan your moves before charging recklessly ahead and potentially wasting a turn. During the Liberate Missions, you'll not only play as MegaMan, but also up to five other navis! The game is split into two versions, which offer different playable navis. While attempting to complete a Liberate Mission, you might find your character surrounded by viruses on the right as well as the left, depending on the power of the DarkPanl you're attacking. MegaMan can change directions to face different opponents by pressing the L and R buttons mid-battle. Enemies also have the tendency to switch sides during battle, so always remain cautious!
